The Giant Redwood and Time Capsule in Charmandean Open Space
On December 4th, 2022, a Giant Redwood tree (Sequoiadendron Giganteum) and a time capsule was planted in Charmandean Open Space by the members of Charmandean Residents Association.
This was to not only commemorate the sad passing of the Queen, but also record the accession to the throne of King Charles III.
At the same time, a time capsule was planted containing the names of, and the dedications by, the residents who kindly donated to the cost, planting and maintenance of the tree.
Some of the dedications are quite moving, and show how much the residents of Charmandean love living in this wonderful area of Worthing.
Below are some of the photos of the event:
Breaking ground!
This young chap from Adur and Worthing Council kindly gave up his Sunday afternoon to plant the tree for us; I`m sure he regretted it after finding so much flint only a foot below the surface!
Luckily no unexploded ordnance was found or leftovers from the time when Charmandean Open Space was allotments during the war effort.
Grow strong and healthy
Backfilling the new tree, hopefully providing a healthy start for its growth for generations to come for everyone who enjoys Charmandean Open Space.
(yes, the four legged friends baptised it soon after planting!)
Thank you to all involved
After the tree was planted, there were a few words of thanks and historical facts from Charmandean Residents
